I’m pretty much in the enjoy a gamble/addicted bracket. I’m in control of what I’m doing but I enjoy it to much to fully give up.

I went through a bad patch a few years ago. I found it hard to walk away from FOBTS/Slots particularly the fortune spins and almost pushed myself to absolute limit before it would affect my bills. I spent the majority of my disposable income on FOBT when I worked in the City. I bit the bullet and started to track what I was spending on bets including any winnings I had played back.

It shocked me enough that I  stopped going to the bookies and bet purely online with limits. I then found if I didn’t like the look of the football or any horses. I would play the slots and my allowance for the month would disappear and I would open an account on a new site. I would take breaks from others so I didn’t have to many accounts open at one time.

Once Gamstop was available I signed up for 5 years. It was horrible signing up as I enjoy gambling but that’s almost a year in and I’m glad I did.

I purely stick to horses and football in the bookies now and back to the way I worked before keep my winnings in a tin and use that for future bets so I see the money going down when I’m not winning. If the money in the tin gets to a decent will put some in the bank.

I think for me gambling is a mental problem. It can affect anyone but especially if you suffer from boredom gambling creeps in and becomes the habit  you use to break it. It can affect you if you use it as an escape from other problems or if you are competitive and don’t know when to walk away. The slots are designed to draw you in and excite you it works on that part of your brain.

I know that’s a big rant above but look at what I have said and see if you relate to any of it. The fact your worrying about becoming addicted and noticed your bank roll going down is a good thing. It might be an opportunity just now to give it a break for a bit and see the difference in your spending. You could evaluate how your habits have changed.  It could be fine but it could catch it early if it is not. It’s better to be safe than sorry because being addicted is a horrible thing

I recently and reluctantly signed up to Gamstop after advice from here. Its worked a treat for me just an acceptance that I cant gamble online at any casino which I would consider safe to use.

Also takes will power and as Seedy said a hobbie. I was bad for the FOBTS and used how I felt after gambiling as a reason not to go in again then i used online and i wasnt enjoying it anymore but still gambiling and finding it hard to stick to my limits so I signed up to Gamstop and not gambled since.

You will have relapses and I always found the first few days to a week hard not having that rush. It how you deal with and recover from them.

Im currently playing world of warcraft  £10 a month and you spend hours just mining or collecting things to sell. I havd found online gaming helps I used to play fifa for hours then. You can find things to occupy your mind just need to find what you like. Books are a good one too but not audiobooks  as your hands are still free to gamble.

Thats the Gamstop done. I actually went in and self excluded my active accounts then set up Gamstop. I just feel a bit ugh now though bit if im going to try giving up properly then as well just going for it n doing the full five years.

I always spent my limits online but I will only go into bookies if I have time or can be bothered as I dont like them and the machines arent an intrest anymore. It would be for a weekend football coupon or lucky 15. If I did one every weekend I would be about £10 – £15 I also found that the machines created a negative atmosphere in the shops as well. I doubt I will ever be gambiling free but taking the slots bit away will be better as I spent the bulk of my £200 limit on them.

I suppose i never realised how easy online gambiling was and the fact I never saw the money as  a physicslal thing just numbers on a screen. Its different with cash in your hand.

I should add I was bad for the FOBT for years as a time killer when I worked in town as there are so many of them but since the £2 stake its killed them for me. I did like the fortune spins and roullette before the having to hit the bar to win a spin that doesnt win or the XO style of winning fortune spins that dont pay anything.

If I stick to my deposit limits which I do because that months break in between deposits lets me cool off and I never won anything the whole year I would be down £2400 per year.

Which when you look at it that way is a lot of money that could be used for nice things. I use my accounts for slots and sports as it keeps me away from the bookies which was my main problem for awhile.

As long as I stick to my deposit limits Im not losing what I cant afford. I do take the point though if I save it gets me a lot of other things. I like gambiling though and im worried if I dont do it online I will end up in the bookies to do my football and horses

    Hi Blade5567

Hope your starting to feel a bit better. Speaking to your partner and getting this off your chest will be the best thing you have ever done. Its the support you get from other people along with willpower that will get you through. Theres nothing worse than suffering this yourself.

It does get easier through time so stick in there.

It doesnt bother me. I only watch rocknrolla and bandit. It feels genuine that they see us part of their team and there is an energy from them.

It would annoy me if it was being done in a fake overacting kind of way.

I do watch stop and step as well but thas more out of habit than anything else. I think he can be quite hard to watch because theres not a lot of emotion there but some of his stuff can be fun to watch.

Some of the commets on Rollas video were asking about the live casino thing and some that watch Davo have said its the same machine and theres no normal casino noises. Dont know what video it is I have never watched him but the comments on you tube are from both sidesand pretty much agreeing with a few saying they had never noticed it before.

Games on FOBT’s that make make a loud noise and say “BIG WIN”  for a fecking £4 win.

LOL – try Rise of Anubis on 20p,  An enormous colourful Graphic flashes up and a sign with BIG WIN in letters 12 inches high appears as you collect you £4.80 ?

Centurion slot on £2 where the Roman twat pops out of the bushes with a big win sign and you think YES !!!  Then colllect your £20 to cut the loss of the £100 you put in to get it.

and don’t even start me of on the machines ringing and shaking I the entire room knows you have won £50.

?? I can definitely relate to the Centurion one. He says “big won” and only hits the first three wheels for something like £40ish on £2 stake, its so annoying. Reelus Maximum saved me yesterday when I was in tilt. Gave me 7 x 5 of a kind Jacks for £240 at the last moment. Phew ??

I started putting the machines just one volume setting above the mute so its low as they seem to have gotten louder. Then when you exit and change games the volume goes back to the medium setting which everyone can hear. That’s when you get the lurkers coming over to be nosey. The big win bell and whistles have definitely gotten worse over the years I mind they never made a fuss unless it was the jackpot. They have adapted it over the years to make it more appealing to people.

The guy asking for the phone and extra cash as a bonus. Do you think this is just a chancer or is there an element of an entitled mentality?

I honestly done nothing all afternoon it is Friday though. I went out measured a future site and met with a developer about their works. I then sat in the office, messed about on phone until it was time to leave dealt with the odd phone call. I picked the Mrs up from work on the way home she’s away out for drinks with her friends so I dropped her came back home and I have somehow been roped into picking her up and taking her 3 friends home who stay dotted about everywhere so got another hour and half to two hours of driving to look forward to do before I can chill out and have a few beers hopfully she phones soon. The good news is Saturday is all mine!!

    1) I think the slots tease far to much especially the ones with character animation.

    2) The rounding off the balance thing I can relate to its a nightmare

    3) The ones that make a big fuss over a 15x win

    4) The jackpot games that will let you get two of each pot then your next picks are all the mini pot

    5) Slots that take far to long to bonus

    6) Bonuses that pay very little or zero what’s the point it just a long way of giving you a small win you could get with a 5 of a kind low symbols.

Does anyone else look at the bonus and look at the amount spins it awards you and say well its gave me  £xxx of spins for free. Do the games count that or is it just based on your stake x whatever the systems decides your getting?

From what I have seen oh here since I joined every topic that is started looking for help or advice the response from the members has been fantastic. I think it will attract people that wish to take advantage of peoples good nature and willingness to help people since a fair amount of us will have found ourselves needing help at some point because of gambling or just bad luck.

I don’t know if a group of willing members could be put together to gather evidence from people asking for financial help or that require things that cost money. They could then put it to the forum and set up a go fund me or something similar where we could donate to help out.

Personally I have found the forum great because I struggled with gambling for years without talking about it. Just to be able to rant, read the advice and to be confident enough to put my story up made a big difference to how I feel about gambling. I used to feel awful if I gambled any sort of money on slots as if its the worst thing in the world. I actually feel as if gambling is fun again because its controlled and it isn’t the end of the world if I lose.

I think it would down to education mate. I never bothered to much when I was younger playing these games but the slots with chance to win big amount of cash was what intrests me. I know playing the games when younger can still trigger thst rewatd part in the brain but i would say in moderation is fine

Just watched it and came on to post about it. They have found a loophole but it may put a lot of people off playing that style of game. I can see the rainbow riches style doing ok but spining a reel to actually get a chance to spin a reel with the chance you wont win. I played a roullete game similar in the pub and it was brutal.

I think regardless of this work around it will still help people especially with roulette. I think stop and step was spot on that the options are basically the same as playing the fortune spins.

Its a shame they have done it as £2 a spin should mean £2 a spin and would in an ideal world put the slots back to their original state. I think most of us expected they would have somthing planned and this new way of playing will target gamblers who like to play close to the edge for that chance at a big hit.
