I recently went to my first casino and I was playing blackjack on a table on my own (was quite late like 4am) someone joined the table and the dealer placed some chips on my side bet and main bet saying the person wanted to play with me. I didn’t know what the etiquette was here whether I gave him some chips to play with or not so just kept playing but felt bad. I looked online after for I should’ve done but found nothing. What should I have done? And is there anything else similar to this that I should know for my next casino visit?

Are you asking if you should have given another player your money? If so, then you should not have given anything — why would you?

I’ve never been to a casino but the way I read it is that the player who wants to play with you is betting that you will win, so is betting on your cards as well as you.  So if you win he wins – no need to give him a share of your money.  If you lose he loses so you haven’t got any money to give him 🙂  I have certainly never heard of any etiquette which states that you have to hand over your cash to a bystander – contrary to the view of the multitude of African Gentlemen who frequent certain bookmakers down in London and seem to feel that if a number comes in after they have shouted it out behind you that you owe them a percentage of your winnings 🙂

I’d be surprised if this was the case. From my experience of casinos, you’re generally ‘encouraged’ to keep your hand to yourself at table games, at least this is true of 3 card poker. I’ve never experienced a player coming to the table to bet on whether you win your hand or not, as I’ve never seen odds displayed anywhere to advertise that method of play. Of course, I could be wrong — I often find it difficult to get on a table as for the aforementioned demographic of gentleman hogging the seats 😉

Sorry probably didn’t explain myself properly but the dealer put some chips by my hand I thought they were winning when I went to grab them the dealer said no the gentleman wants to play with you they’re his chips. I lost so I don’t know if he was betting on me or for me. Something I’d never seen or heard of before and evidently no one else has

You have no reason to show anyone your cards until the dealer needs to see them to obviously verify your win. I have never heard of someone blind betting on a player but hey ho, there’s nothing wrong with someone doing it I guess.

I did once have a Chinese fellow in my local bookies invite me to a local casino, which I politely declined. He interest wasn’t only in roulette balls. Much prefer to bet online, there are too many weirdos who make a beeline for me maybe sensing a kindred spirit. How that guy does those FOBT’s videos without getting constant hassle is beyond me.

He was betting on your hand as well as a separate bet. It’s sometime a thing that happens. Other players see a person on a hot streak and want to join in on their luck.

If anyone does put a side bet by yours, don’t forget the hand is still yours and it is your decision what action you take. Don’t let yourself be influenced by someone else.
