    Evening all,

Having a pint with a good mate of mine and was discussing the FOBT max stake change in April and we had a thought which could be catastrophic for gamblers.

What is to stop the bookies removing the FOBT but putting in a terminal that links direct to a live spinner (effectively becoming an online betting terminal). This would not only get around the max £2 spin but would effectively increase the stake amount to the same as online. All punters would have to do is have an ID and password and money could be loaded up behind the counter. It would be online gambling but from a bookies instead of home/internet cafe

I really hope im miles off with this – just one of them things that came up in conversation

Oh…..and if your reading this read my other post and get donating hahahaha

    Any thoughts?

Yes.. easy way out for the bookies.. however,,.. from a profit point of view.. maybe not so good. fobts essentially rape you of cash.. online slots are way way fairer.. in my book anyhow.

dunno.. i can see what a good idea that is. they could make it easy for the punter to log in, by giving him a loyalty card.. etc etc..

quick.. suggest is to william hill and ladbrokes quick.. 🙂

Its not slots that the bookies will lose out on as for the most part they are £2 max bet anyway so they would rather still have these machines for ppl to play slots as max win is £500,its the roullette players,so this would be a work around for them to still make the money they do from roullette on  FOBTs if they just allow roullette online but no slots.

There will be some sort of catch in the law to prevent this or there will be one made. Remember the only people allowed to escape the law are politicians.

    I work in a bookies.The main one .

As a person behind the counter I could not stress enough about their new ideas. Most of canno’t wait till £2 comes in force. It will never stop people gambling how ever it will decrease addiction.

About the issue raised linking terminals to online then no it won’t happen as GC won’t allow as premises licence is not valid and they would have to apply for a casino licence.

When these machines first came about in the UK  the law was basically the “random number generator” had to be supplied remotely and by a 3rd party. The results were transmitted by satellite.

In 2005 the law changing meant the results could be produced on site, such speed was required for games that required faster processing so you could have slots.

The amendments in 2005 to the gaming act super-seeds the previous, so I can only presume to allow remote gaming in a LBO would require new legislation.

All pretty pointless since if you have a smart phone you can deposit in shop and do exactly the bets you are explaining.

Would expect the high street operators to push their on line platforms in shops.

Would you need a premesis license for this though? In my town centre there is an internet cafe which I could go into and login to and online gambling site??

Load up any of the newish William Hill slot games and you’ll see how they’re starting to prepare for the £2 maximum stake…essentially they’ve introduced ‘fortune spin’ stakes between the 20p – £2, so if you bet £2 you’ll be getting the same pay table as a lower stake but with ‘enhanced bonus symbols’ or similar, which in reality means sod all!

I’ve played a lot of the new games on 20p and struggle to see their potential there never mind at maximum stake!
