I would just like to ask why so many people put total blame on casinos / bookmakers… I’ve been guilty about thinking that I’m being shafted by bookies etc. In the past, but the reality is that I’ve made a conscious decision to place any bet or any spin and it’s been my decision alone, seems like a lot of people are claiming that FOBTs ruin lives, they don’t, people who choose to spend their whole wage in said machine are fucking their own lives up, I found myself in around 25 grand worth of debt at 19 through gambling and a party lifestyle, it wasn’t William Hill’s fault, it wasn’t the bank’s fault for loaning me money, it was my fault, because I was a stupid dick. I’ll still rinse a grand or two on the slots in a night if the mood takes me, and sometimes I win, most of the time I don’t. I don’t lose that cash and then think that I’m hard done by, and the advertising got a hold of me, and the big bad bookie made me do it, I’m well aware of the risks, same as every other cunt who gambles.

Not at all you are correct in what you say. That being said not everyone is in complete control and realise that they even have a problem. The easy way out is to always blame something or someone else. I think deep down the person probably does know this but just in denial, like you said when you realise its on you thats probably when you can start to progress. With no personal experience and of course everyone is different its impossible for me to say exactly but thats how i view it.

Every penny I ever put into a machine I did of my own free will, it’s no one else’s fault.

I don’t like the advertising which promotes a false picture, but then again it’s a business, I also detest the way staff in bookies immediately offer to remove the £50 limit to enable you to lose more (that one really pisses me off), but I guess they are probably told they have to do that, pretty much like the poor guy behind the counter at Poundland who has to ask everyone if they want chocolate 1000 times a day.

It has always been my decision, and I understand the sickness aspect but the option is to refuse to serve anyone in case they get addicted thereby penalising many who are in control and enjoy it.

Doesn’t mean I’m not going to laugh my tits off every time a bookies is forced to close over the next 6 months though 🙂

Well said, can’t stand the cry babies who blame everyone else but themselves. The absolute worst ones are those who threaten self harm because of losing.

I appreciate the replies, thought I’d get a bit of needle about it, but I had to share my thoughts. I’ve massively fucked up and had my issues but you just need to remember that money isn’t the be all and end all of life.

I agree,The only part that annoys me is way over the top verification sometimes when you actually win after they take thousands off you when losing…besides from that its our own choice/fault if we make financial problems for ourselves.
