A while ago I was gambling a lot, and maybe losing a bit more money than I should have. My friend, after a horrible session and seeing that I wanted to quit gambling, took it upon himself to sign me up (he knows all my details, etc and has access to my ID and stuff as we live together). I was angry at first but realized it was for the best, and in the bigger picture, it wasn’t going to go well.
However, little did I know that the ban was for 5 YEARS. I contacted Gamstop support about this who told me my only two options are;
– Provide evidence against my mate so they can launch an investigation into identity fraud
– Serve the 5-year ban.
Now, obviously I’m not going to do that as he was just trying to help me out and I’m not a scumbag, but this is just ridiculous. I don’t know if it was just the support agent I was speaking to, but she was thoroughly unhelpful. I made the point that if it WASN’T ME who entered into the contract, I have NO obligation to uphold it.
Does anybody have any advice? Seems like I’m trapped between a rock and a hard place.

Hi mate, that’s shit that he’s signed you up, but maybe see it as a good thing, gives you 5 years to save money and that. If not ask your mate to open a account in his name? Then he monitors what you can put in and you can play.
hope everything’s get sorted128th July 2019 at 11:26 pm #75418Tricky0212 WANTED $82Outlaw
Don’t really know what else you want Gamstop to do to be honest.
They have given you the options, which are both prima facie acceptable to me. They are saying either you signed up yourself and you’re not able to cancel, or that if your mate did it, send us evidence and we will pursue him for identity fraud.
They are never going to say (without evidence) oh ok it was your mate so we’ll just reduce it to 6 months and not take any further action. Otherwise everyone would say that who changes their mind.29th July 2019 at 9:30 am #75444eejit101 WANTED $300Outlaw

You will have to proof it was your friend. Like someone has said you want them just to take you’re word of it ?! The way to proof is usually a police reference number.
And what a pal ?5 years ouch, that must sting.
Get him to set up an gambling account that you can play at.
If none of these are an option looks like you’re waiting out 5 years. Think of all the money you’ll save ?129th July 2019 at 5:07 pm #75671aidxnn WANTED $5Outlaw
Yeah mate I completely understand why they can’t just lift the ban. Just a bit of a shit situation, I think the best option is to get him to open an account like some of you said.
5 years though, 2024… Absolutely brutal.
Maybe if my friend and I ring Gamstop and talk to somebody instead of just over livechat, they would understand a bit more? I don’t know. I’ll save money over these years 100%, but it’s just irritating.29th July 2019 at 6:18 pm #75685Kelvie WANTED $45Outlaw
They might understand, but they won’t do shit. You either grass your pal or wait it out. If he’s a good pal set everything up in his name that means his account his bank card. You transfer say £20 a week. And have the account at deposit limits £20 a week. Only thing is do you trust him enough to pay you of you win ?!
That’s your only options. Hope you work it out. Cause fuck, never playing slot till 2024 ??1123rd August 2019 at 9:27 am #78559
I was wondering this my self, what stops someone else from signing up in your name if they know all your personal info.
I dont know what documents etc they ask for but surely if it’s only one form of ID which could be easily accessible to someone else in the same household how could you then even prove it wasn’t you?
Something else I’ve always wondered as well if someone was to sign up to gamstop for 5 years, but within that time got married got a new surname, moved town got a new phone number/email etc would that person then be able to open up new accounts with any casino and be undetected?
