So, I have been there, payday comes around and off you go, in to the bookies, feed all your wages in and that’s it for the month! Done it so many times in the past and this story stems from a time when i actually worked for the bookies too and i still didn’t know any better lol

It was Summer of 2006 I believe and it was stupidly hot, i had been working open – close for god knows how many days on a shitty cashiers wage but managing the store – they used to love to do that, pay you peanuts but leave you on your own to cope with absolutely everything. I was living in London at the time – East Acton i think it was called.

Anyway, usual script for me really, payday rolls in and my first available opportunity would be my next day off and off i go for a spin of the roulette wheel, well about £1000 later and i’m really needing to leave or i won’t be eating much for the next 30 days, a virtual horse race is coming up and i have this thing, doesn’t seem to work anymore but back then, it yielded some awesome results. Basically, you were almost always guaranteed to hit a couple of these races during the day where the places were full of the huge price horses in the race, 1st, 2nd and 3rd would be taken by 20/1 and above so what i decided to start doing in every one was to take the 6 worst price horses and combination tricast them at 5p per bet. It was a £6 layout and 120 bets but a good one would land you in the region of £400 and i had managed it a few times!

So my bet is on and it’s pretty much my last £6, i have saved a £20 note but asides from that, that is me done. As it ticks towards race time i notice the runners are actually split across two teles and not just the one i saw for the race so my 6 worst odds horses are actually only 5 of the worst as there is one single horse sat on another screen, 100/1…. i’m thinking hmmmmm, going to fuck me aren’t you…. what do i do, redo my bet…. nah fuck it i’l have £10 each way on that one please… i think you probably know the rest – the bastard only went and won haha! I’m pretty sure the return was £1200 odd which left me actually in profit and boy did i run away! Luckily the favourite came 2nd so had i have got the tricast bet correct first time, i’d have won nothing!

They seemed to clock on to the ctc bet no so long after because there just always seemed to be one of the shorter priced horses in the top 3 forever more!

Brilliant one bandit I used to do the same but my virtual get out was number 1 and the 9-1 shot . But my all time best was I went to santa Anita Los Angeles for the breeders cup in 2009 , I was there for two weeks and had saved 3000 English money to convert to dollars . First week of the holiday was the racing so I thought not going to get to involved as still have a week left after and a long way from home . Anyway the race day arrived and we went along early and started having a few drinks before we went racecourse in the hotel never a good look before going gambling . Anyway get to the course and get seriously involved coming up to the big race of the meeting I have 300 left for the whole of the holiday with no more money available I decide to go for it and put 200 dollars on zenyatta which win and a silly bet called a superfecta which is to predict the first four home I walk up to the betting kiosk and que up once I get to the front I realise I forgot my racecard so decided to pick three random ones behind the horse I backed previously and manage to fluke it for 50c paid 4000 dollars I couldn’t believe it I left straight away best holiday ever . I know have the picture on my wall of the first four home !!!

Aug bank holiday weekend last summer.

I go watching oldham away at Blackpool a load of us booked for the 2 nights as it was bank holiday. Arrive the weather is amazing and it’s full of oldham fans. As you can imagine the beers flowed. The same night of the mayweather v mgreggor fight we watched it in the casino next to sand castle swimming baths.

I’ve always gambled but not been to a casino a huge amount of times. I went over to the roulette table really drunk lost my first few spins after doing 30-40 quid stakes. I thought right 10 on 29 my fave number and go, boom 29 I was amazing, I thought right use ya brain gamble with the 60 and go, what numbers do I hate 6 16 and 4 so I put 25 each on 6 and 16 and the 10 on 4  by this point the lads had Come over the ball spins and boom 6 Land’s with 25 quid on it for 900 quid absolute scenes. Unbelievably I had another spin and kept 25 on 16 and boom it landed absolute carnage another 900 quid. Decided to get away from the live table and play a few slots. After about a hour dicking about and not watching the fight tilled up and left with 2200 quid after a epic night. It’d safe to say the rest of the weekend was absolute carnage.

Was at Sandown 2 years ago with work colleagues, we go a couple of times a year. I was pretty drunk with 2 races to go and struggling to read the racecard. Horses were on the track and most people had vacated the area we were in (We sit on the balcony above the paddock) to go to watch the race. I look to the paddock, there is one horse still walking round with no jockey. Suddenly a jockey comes running over to mount the horse, a man in a suit seems to have appeared from nowhere and kindly helps the jockey into the saddle. They share words, the suited guy pats the jockey on the back and the horse goes to join the rest of the field. This is it I think, I have spotted skullduggery!! This horse cant lose, what is it what is it?!?!?! I squint hard to improve my view and spot it is number 5. Check my wallet, keep enough for a round of drinks and promptly go to the tote. £40 on number 5 please. (I normally bet £5 or £10 a race unless winning so this is quite big for me). A few minutes later, a huge roar goes up as the well punted favourite hits the front, but wait, whos that coming on the outside, its Zamperni……what number is it I cant see!!! Photgraph called….first number 5!!! The groan went up in the stands that the favourite had lost, and there was one mad man, me, running up the stairs screaming “Zamperini, Zamperini” !!! I must have looked a knob, but I felt great when it paid just over £10 on the tote 🙂  Drinks on me lads.

Ok here’s a crazy story…This must have been at least 4 years ago it was on a poker site but it had slots too. Called Elios Poker I think?

Anyway so it was Easter Time as they’d given me a £2 poker bonus in an easter egg or something? It was exclusively for cash games until I’d turned it over. So I played the cash games expecting to lose(standard way of thinking totally skint so nothing will win) to my surprise I turned it over into cash with £10 left. Had had enough of poker so I went over to the Netents!

Started on some old favourites Twin Spin, DOA and Fruit Shop I think and went down very quickly, I was down to about 4 quid odd thinking I’m going to bust.

My dad had been banging on about Ghost Pirates I’d played it before but never seen anything massive. Ok, stuff it Ghost Pirates on 8p. I wasn’t playing very long and I hit free spins it then kept retriggering I ran through and phoned my mate this game going nuts get over here. I came back through to the room and it had hit 800x! Balance now £69 to this day I’ve no idea what I hit!

This is not where the story ends though, I decided to ride my luck and played several more Netents among them were Egyptian Heroes, Subtopia, Demolition Squad.

I then went onto a fairly new one at the time Magic Portals got the bonus and balance was now £135. Decided to switch machine and changed to a game called Silent Run I’d heard it had an insane Torpedo bonus but its hard to get.

I got the Torpedo bonus right after raising my bet to 50p, I got 5 maximum torpedos and clicked the ships, Then it happened the last ship was worth 5000! Which at 10x multiplier is £500! 1000x! Balance now £635, up by £633 from starting balance!

Ok, so most people would cash this out but I did not. I played more slots including Jack and beanstalk, big bang, DOA again, Alien Robots, Reel Rush every slot won putting me more and more into profit. By the close of session I’d won over £1,400.

I withdrew just over half and tried to win some more the next day I racked the other 600 into over 1000 again!

This is not the end of the run though I decided to try my luck at Thrills the next day(when withdrawal went through) deposited 3 times on the third deposit I won £150 on Break da bank again (gold coins x25 in bonus).

A friend had told me to try Fruit Shop so I opted to give it a go, I started on small bets 45p and kept raising it kept winning and before I knew it I was betting 1.50 a spin(high for me back then).<span style=”font-size: 1rem;”>I got the free spins and it just went mental 2 lines of oranges came in with the 2x multiplier. £405 I withdrew it all right away. Another £670 banked in total from that teeny £2 I’d won over £2,248(may have been more hard to remember exact figures)</span>

I wish every session went like that!

    the life of a gambler

i am old now (well mature) i look back now on my years and years of gambling and think was it worth it, the highs and lows was it any way

to live, look after a wife and bring up two children. The highs, big house 2 cars mine an aston martin, the wifes a mini cooper best education

for the children. The lows (FUCK THE LOWS) the highs were just to good, the race meetings. the live poker tournaments, the casinos.

(quick message for bandit you want a mortgage never go to your bank never use a mortgage advisor use a broker you pay him he will get you

a mortgage, the lender could be anywhere 3 of mine were american 1 was irish never a problem only times i was ripped the lenders were uk high

street banks its a long time since i had a mortgage but i am sure a good private broker will find the hundreds of lenders you have never heard off)

anyway back to gambling as i have said i have always gambled but also worked, i worked fucking hard, for my sins i was a private accountant

Any businessman loves a private accountant he opens doors to riches that accountancy FIRMS keep closed. he makes you money where as a firm of accountants cost you money.

this story even now makes me uneasy its 1979 my wife and i(no children yet) are working and living in london, its friday and this afternoon we are going on holiday for 2 weeks i am to meet the wife a kings cross station at 5pm and then were off. I get to the office to find my client has cancelled i have nothing more to do that day  i leave at lunch time and get a bite to eat ,while eating i see a tote betting shop across the street

thats dangerous i have £5000 in cash the holiday money, should have given it to the wife this morning but hey i,m not going to gamble the holiday money. I LOSE £2000 within an hour, the day has turned bad it gets worse i am now on a recovery mission that turns into a nightmare

its now getting late in the after noon and i have to get across london to kings cross. i am now thinking what do i do i am £4500 down why go

to kings cross, worst of all i have let down my wife so badly. I walk out of the bookies get a coffee, smoke a fag what the fuck do i do, at this time the thoughts that go through you head are far from rational  (ie) run away, jump of the nearest bridge, join the foreign legion these thoughts crowd your mind (thank god for coffee and cigarettes) they get rid of the feeling of panic and let you analyse the situation. the only

problem i have is i have lost £4500 the solution get it back if i don,t get it back then we can think of the new life in the gutter, foreign legion or

whatever. Back in the tote bookmakers i an studying the 4.15 race (i should be happily nearly at kings cross and not in this fucking situation)

i keep getting drawn to a 16/1 shot the last thing i want is a each way bet i want two nice priced favourites (fuck the time) the wife will wait just as long as i get to kings cross with the money. i put £400 straight win on the 16/1 shot i figure better keep a £100 in my pocket to disappear

with.Race sets of no tv only race commentary its a photo finish more agony mines in the photo, result my horse placed 2nd, i slowly head for

the exit i am drained i just get to the door when i hear stewards enquiry i stop but when do the stewards ever do anything, then objection by the second to the winner. its agony but its not agony its hope 15 minutes later i race out of the bookies with £6800 in my pocket plus my £100 hail

a bright beautiful black london cab, offer a £40 tip to get me to kings cross as fast as he could. years and years have gone by since that day

in which time i have had days when i have won or lost but only one day makes me even now uneasy to think about it (what if the 16/1 shot

had lost. ????   remember £5000 may not be much now but in 1979 it was MONEY
