Some providers re-skin existing slots e.g. Le Bandit > Le Zeus, but how do patents work when another studio is copying someone else’s slot?  The graphics and themes are usually different but the mechanics are 1:1 like for like.

e.g. as per topic title Retro Tapes / Retro Sweets being copied

Lucky Lady’s Charm > Madame Destiny

Danger High Voltage > Electric Avenue

Book of Ra > Book of Dead

    Thai Flower > Lucky Lotus

Fishin’ Frenzy > Big Bass (original version)

For the fishing type games, I don’t count Ugliest Catch and Golden Catch as copies because their mechanics are different enough in my mind.  Big Bass then went on to a huge number of remakes which aren’t copies as they are deviations.  Legacy of Egypt is also just about different enough from Montezuma to not to be a copy because the multipliers on offer are different.

Just interested really.  Book of Ra and Book of Dead are about 10 years apart, something like 2006 and 2016, so I can let that go.  But Retro Sweets and Monster Munch stack are only like 2-3 years apart.  Big Time Gaming’s Bonanza Megaways can be let go too because BTG licensed out their Megaways mechanic to other providers.  So that’s how we ended up with Bonanza being copied as Diamond Mine.
