I’ve asked Seedy for a subsection dedicated to poker as I see alot of people mention it. For now this will do.

How many of you guys play? What sites/stakes any major success?

Dont want this to turn into a badbeat section so lets keep it general for now.

I play quite a lot of poker (I see it differently to gambling, which is a different discussion lol)

I prefer PLO or badugi cash games. Will occasionally play the odd Holden tournament if the prize pool is decent and I’m in the mood lol. Also like open faced Chinese poker and strip deck

I havent played as much poker in recent years as I used to, its just the odd tournament down the local grosvenor these days but when I was really into it, it was always NLH MTTs and PLO cash.

Binked a few small tournies for a couple of $k. Pokerstars dominates the market so I played there but also a few iPoker skins too.

Every year I still make it to the Goliath tournament thats held in conventry. Yet to cash that though.

I love the goliath. For value alone plus the cash games only a one of the best tournaments out there. Didn’t play this year, cashed last year but not for much.

I don’t play online, I just can’t seem to be profitable online and don’t enjoy it as much as physically having chips in front of me

One thing I am very strict on is bankroll management. I have a starting stake which i put in a seperate account every january. I know that bandit has stated a few times it is important to keep certain funds separate from your usual banking account. Whatever is left in the poker account at the end of the year is used dependant on the amount I have made through the year. One year it was a trip to Florida for me and the  Mrs. Another year it was a big chunk off the mortgage. This year I will be lucky if I get a weekend in bognor lol

I haven’t got the bloody patience tbh which is a shame because numbers and percentages and that would be me all over haha Obviously, you then have to actually be good, that’s probably where i would fall on me face 😀

You’ll be suprised how well you can play just using the basic.

The math is more important at the higher skill levels but even then you’ll come across the recreational players and milk them 🙂

Whatever you do dont spunk your bankroll on the spin n go tournaments on pokerstars, ive lost so much money on them.

I think Ive lost my patience for poker, thats probably why I almost exclusively play slots now.

Think I posted in another thread Ive lost 12deposits this week tho hahah. Guna chuck another 50 on and try and do 40p on reel king and chase that bloody top ladder!

How do you do it Bandiy, its beyond me ?

To be fair the patience element is one of the reasons I play cash rather than tournaments.

Nothing worse than sitting in a tournament for 6 – 8 hours then not cashing, or seeing that the prize pool is only a couple of hundred quid.i like the big tournaments like the goloath simply because the RTI is huge – 70k for 120 buy in is ridiculous.

I am much happier playing 2-5 or 5-10 cash games depending on bankroll and current performance. I find that keeping spreadsheet helps me to monitor where I am loosing and gaining the most then I focus on the more profitable games

Countless times Ive spent a school night playing a tournament for hours and shit out just before the money.

When stars brought out the timed tournaments I thought “oh great”, something to have a quick bash at without staying up all night. Still shit at them tho haha

I just avoid online completely mate. Used to play on stars, part poker and full tilt. Going through my spreadsheet my online games where horrendous plus I went through a couple of accidents with my laptop (if you call throwing it against a wall an accident) so it was easier to just stick to live play

It all depends on my current bankroll mate. If I’m playing cash I usually sit with either 100 or 200 big blinds with enough behind me for 2 or 3 more buy ins.

Tournament wise it depends on the guarantee and where I am work wise etc. Next year I know I will play the goliath but I will probably play the gukpt main event in Manchester and maybe Glasgow depending on where I am. I usually schedule work appointments around bigger tournaments as work pay for hoteks/travel lol

Defo up for a catch up at goliath mate. Few drinks with fellow gamblers in one of the best casinos in the UK – what could go wrong hahahaha but yeah defo up for that.

My cash results have been really good. This year not as good as recent years but that’s simply because I haven’t played ad much as I wanted to. Hoping next year will be a belter though

Poker is probably my #1 hobby! I run pub league games all around Wolverhampton, and play at the casino and online fairly regularly.

Anyone entering Grosvenor’s Christmas Cracker this year? Got my entry on Friday night in Birmingham!
